The Red Paintbrush pictured is a parasitic plant, dependent on other plants such as the Oregon Sunshine (we do get sunshine occasionally). This beautiful display of native flowers was found off the side of an old logging road, an opening created by past destruction. I am curious about the intersections of systems like this, hidden interdependence, and the opportunities at the edges of communities.
